Take to the water to admire the world’s largest stone carved Buddha as it guards the rivers’ confluence.

Seated Buddha

A couple of hours outside Chengdu, you’ll find this remarkable eighth-century statue. The seated figure is carved into a cliff face at the confluence of three rivers and at 71 metres tall it dwarfs all passing vessels. To truly appreciate its magnificence, take a short boat ride along the river.

Calm Waters

It was believed that the carving of the Grand Buddha into the rock would calm the waters of the turbulent river below. As a result, during construction, so much rock fell into the river that the currents changed and the river was naturally calmed.
