Discover Buddhism in Beijing at the Lama Temple, a fascinating spiritual home in the heart of the city.

Yellow Hats

Officially known as the Yonghe Temple, this monastery is one of the most important centres of Tibetan Buddhism in the world. It is a centre for the Yellow Hat Sect (or Gulug School) of Buddhism and the temple has very close links with the Ganden Monastery in Lhasa.

Sandalwood Statue

Another important sight is the statue of the Maitreya Buddha in the Pavilion of Ten Thousand Happiness. It is created from a single sandalwood tree and holds the world record for being the largest such carving.
