Discover the last capital city of the Khmer empire established by King Jayavarman in the 12th century.

Bayon Temple

The ancient city of Angkor Thom is built in a vast square. You will approach it across a causeway flanked by statues of gods and demons before passing through one of five monumental gates. The city is most famous for the Bayon Temple with its multitude of smiling faces.

Terrace of the Elephants

You’ll also see several lesser temples and two royal viewing platforms: the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. These platforms were used by the king to watch a march-past of his victorious army.
